Little Shop of Horrors
JOSH BURLINGHAM (Executive Producer, Executive Director, President) ), hailing from South Hamilton, MA, is a senior, Theatre Arts major in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University. In the past six years alone, Josh has been involved in over thirty productions. Little Shop Of Horrors marks his eighth and final season with the MTC. Company credits include: John Hinckley in Assassins, Cinderella’s Prince in Into the Woods and Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Josh has also directed in-house productions of Bat Boy: The Musical, A New Brain and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party. He would like to extend a special thanks to the faculty and staff at Cornell University’s Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts for all they have taught him, and to his friends and family for their constant love and support.
ARIEL REID (Executive Artistic Director)
MICHAEL GARRETT (Executive Scenic Designer) is in his sixth season with the MTC. Company credits include Bat Boy: The Musical (Master Carpenter), A New Brain (Technical Director, Scenic Designer), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and The Wild Party (Executive Technical Director, Scenic Designer). Michael also serves as the Technical Director for Risley Theater. Other credits include: Festival of One Acts (Director), Robber Bridegroom (Technical Director), Skin of Our Teeth (Master Carpenter), Beat Box Bard (Asst. Lighting Designer), and Cradle Will Rock (Sound Crew). Michael has been trained in Technical Theater at The Hill School. He is currently a junior at Cornell University, studying Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
ALEX GRUHIN (Associate Producer, Assistant Director) is a freshman in Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. He has worked off-Broadway at the Summer Play Festival at Theatre Row as an Intern and Assistant Stage Manager on their production of “Spain” (dir. Jeremy Dobrish). For the past two years, he has served as a member of the Festival’s play selection committee alongside New York theatre professionals. Alex has performed throughout the Washington D.C. metropolitan area (his home), including a stint with the Washington National Opera under the conduction of Plácido Domingo.
ERNEST MEADOWS (Associate Producer) is a freshman at Cornell University majoring in Applied Economics and Management. He is from Brooklyn, NY, where he wrote and produced his own play and co-produced others. Additionally, he is involved in several student organizations at Cornell, such as, Student Assembly and Class Council of 2011. Little Shop Of Horrors is his first production with the MTC, and he is extremely excited for many more.
KATIE VAN CLEAVE (Associate Producer) is a sophomore, Atmospheric Science major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. She has been working in theatre for many years as Stage Manager, Technical Director, and Producer. Little Shop Of Horrors marks her third season with the MTC after serving as Stage Manager for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Stage Manager and Associate Producer for The Wild Party. She would like to thank her family and friends for their undying support. "Mom and Dad, I couldn't have done this without you. Thank you."
SAMANTHA MATTHEWS (Assistant Director, Choreographer) is a sophomore TV/R and Drama double major at Ithaca College. She has been performing in and around her hometown of Stratford, CT since she was nine, and recently performed in a local production of Kismet. Other onstage roles include: Tuptim in The King and I, Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella in Into the Woods, and Marian Paroo in The Music Man. She is thrilled to be returning to the MTC for her second production after playing Kate in Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party.
ELENA GALVÁN (Music Director) is a sophomore Vocal Music Performance and Education major at Ithaca College, making her MTC debut this semester. An Ithaca native, Elena has been involved in its musical community through school musicals and groups as well as the Ithaca Children's Choir, which toured to North and South Carolina, Canada and Italy. Elena served as Assistant Musical Director for the middle school sect of the Next Generation camp through the Hanger Theater, as well as Assistant Musical Director for the Boynton Middle School's production of The Wizard of Oz. Eventually, Elena would love to have her own, private vocal studio. Thanks to her friends and family!
CHRIS TOLBERT (Orchestra Director, Conductor) is currently a sophomore at Ithaca College majoring in Music Education. Though he is primarily a trumpet player, conducting has become one of his prevailing interests since his involvement with the MTC. Chris has served as Conductor for MTC productions of Steven Sondheim's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party. Chris also serves as an IC Resident Assistant, Ithaca Dining Services Student Supervisor, and as a member of the brass quintet Five Cents Sharp. Special thanks to his teachers and friends!
JEFF PALEY (Technical Director), hailing from Cincinnati, OH, is a sophomore at Cornell University studying biological engineering. He built sets in his high school theater, and has worked in the Schwartz center scene shop since his freshman year. This is his first production with the MTC.
MICHAEL TEDESCO (Director of Marketing) has been involved with the MTC for over two years. He has appeared in three MTC productions, including Bat Boy: The Musical (Pan, Ned), A New Brain (Minister), and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Ensemble) and served as Ticket Agent for The Wild Party. Michael is currently a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University. He would like to thank all of our cast and staff for their dedication and hard work to bringing musical theatre back to the Cornell campus.
KEITH COLLIER (Director of Photography) is a second-year MBA student in Cornell's Johnson Graduate School of Management. Keith grew up near Scranton, PA and earned two engineering degrees from Penn State. At Cornell, Keith is co-president of the Johnson School Photography Club, a Staff Photographer for the Cornellian yearbook, Features Editor of the Cornell Business Journal, President of the graduate school a cappella ensemble "Sound Investments", and the founder of Cayuga Strategies, LLC. Keith enjoys hockey skating, collecting antique maps, and cold nights in warm pubs. After graduation, Keith plans to pursue an investment management career at a Boston-based fund.
ALEX SILVER (Assistant Photographer) is a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University. He is from Bethesda, Maryland, where he first pursued his interest in photography. In high school he was president of the photography club and won several national accolades including 3 gold medals in The Scholastics Art and Writing Awards. At Cornell, Alex is a staff photographer for the Cornell Daily Sun and is currently studying photography in the College of Art, Architecture and Planning.
KELSEY ADAMS (Stage Manager) is a freshman in the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell. She is from Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked on the production team for several musicals at her high school. This is her first show with the MTC, and she is very excited to get back into theatre production. She would like to thank her friends and family for their love and support.
PJ MEAD (Business Manager) is a sophomore Theatre Arts Management major at Ithaca College from Keene, New Hampshire. Although this is her first semester with MTC, she has worked as Assistant Box Office Manager, Webmaster and Coordinator of a Senior Directing Project at IC. She is also a member and treasurer of Ithaca College’s ICircus. She will be studying in London in the fall of 2008 at the Ithaca College London Center.
BRIAN GRAMBOW (Assistant Business Manager) is a freshman in the School of Hotel Administration. Previous theater experience includes several one acts throughout high school. Some of his favorite activities include bowling and judo. Brian has also spent the last two semesters writing for The Cornell Review. This is his first semester with the MTC, and he is looking forward to many future productions.
MICHELLE HUYNH (House Manager, Construction Crew) is a Cornell freshman from Sunnyvale, CA with a currently undecided major in the College of Arts and Science. Little Shop Of Horrors marks her second production with the MTC. In high school, she served as stage crew for the play The Cripple of Inishmaan. She'd like to thank the production staff for giving her a chance to be part of this awesome group, and may she continue to learn more about theatre from them.
TAMAR MacKAY (Dramaturg, Costume Crew) is very excited to be working with the MTC for the first time. She is a sophomore Culture and Communication major at Ithaca College. She is from New York City, and is therefore a great fan of bagels as well as Woody Allen. Tamar is interested in all aspects of the theatre, and has held numerous jobs both onstage and off. Most recently, she served as Dramaturg for the IC Players Show Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.  “Thank you to the great cast and crew of the MTC, my wonderful parents and friends, and my lovely dog, Lacy.”
TRAVIS CHINICK (Costume Designer)
ROSS HAARSTAD (Lighting Designer) joined the MTC as Lighting Designer for The Wild Party and is thrilled to be working with this dynamic group once again. Ross works as a graphic designer for Cornell Cinema and is also a writer and theatre artist, with particular interests in directing, dramaturgy and playwriting. He thanks his partner of over 21 years, Larry Roberts, for continued inspiration and support.
GLENN HODGSON (Sound Designer) is currently a sophomore at Ithaca College studying trombone and the recording arts. He is excited to be returning as Sound Designer for his second season with the MTC after Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party
ARIEL ARBISSER (Makeup Designer) a native of Davenport, IA, is currently a sophomore in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations planning to transfer to Communication in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. She has performed in, and done makeup for, many shows over the years, but Little Shop Of Horrors marks only her third production with the MTC after Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and The Wild Party. She is president of and an avid CD salesperson for the Chordials, a co-ed a cappella group at Cornell. Their most recent CD, “Arrival” was recognized as the best co-ed album in the nation in 2007 and the group is currently recording their next album. This semester, she launched Ariel Makeup Artistry, a cosmetic service for students and residents of the Ithaca area. Ariel would like to thank her parents for giving her the freedom to explore her passion and the cast and crew for such a great show!
DORA FRAEMAN (Graphic Designer)
ANDERS BENSON (Puppet Designer) is a freshman in the Hotel School at Cornell and plans to one day be a chef, but has fun doing crazy things such as building giant plants. He has previously worked on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, played piano for a melodrama, and served as lead understudy for Cats 2: Rise of Growl Tiger. He would like to say thank you to all of his friends that helped him with this project!
KAYLA McCUMBER (Wardrobe Supervisor) is a sophomore B.A. Drama major at Ithaca College. This is her first time working with the MTC, and she is very excited to be a part of the company. Previously, she has worked on costumes with IC Triple Threat Theatre, IC Mainstage, and Running To Places Productions. Also, this year, she has directed Ithaca College's production of The Vagina Monologues. Kayla would like to thank her friends who keep her sane during shows!
RACHEL MAYER (Makeup Artist) is a freshman Biology and Society major in CALS. This is the first production she has been involved in at Cornell, and her first time as a makeup artist. In high school she performed in In the Middle of Grand Central (Marty), Neil Simon's Rumors (Cassie), and Singin' in the Rain (dance). She would like to thank Ariel for all her guidance, and the cast for having such beautiful faces with which to work.
LUKE PRYOR (Light Board Operator, Construction Crew) is a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences. He attended a high school just outside of Philadelphia, PA, where he was the lighting designer and worked on set construction for a number of shows, including most recently, The Pajama Game and The Miracle Worker. Little Shop Of Horrors will be his first show with the MTC. He would like to thank his family and his friends.
LEONARD TEDESCO (Ticket Agent) is excited to be returning to his second semester with the MTC following the company's fall production of Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party. Lenny was part of his Drama Club in high school, where he performed such memorable roles as Olson in The Long Voyage Home and Doody in the musical Grease. Lenny is a junior and a Government major in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University.
ROBERT BERG (Senior Copywriter) has been involved in the MTC since its first production of Assassins and has since performed such varied company roles as Lead Creative Consultant, Associate Producer and Dramaturg. Robert holds a Masters in Theatre History and Criticism from CUNY Brooklyn and a Bachelors in Liberal Studies from SUNY Purchase. He is also the proud co-founder and co-president of Striking Prose, Inc., a professional freelance copywriting company. Additionally, he is a reviewer and has been published in David Hofstede's "5000 Episodes and No Commercials: The Ultimate Guide to TV Shows on DVD 2007." Robert currently lives in New York, NY, with his partner and somewhere around 400 DVDs and 500 books.
